Police Step Up Crackdown on Irregular Migration in Jinack Islands

-

The Gambia Police Force has stepped up efforts against irregular migration in the Jinack Islands, as it continues Operation “Storm Watch”.

The Police Operation which began on January 6th 2026, targets suspected irregular migration activities in the North Bank Region.

CSP Jatta, Officer Commanding Kerewan Police Intervention Unit (PIU), led a platoon of officers into Jinack on 10th January, 2026.

Authorities say the deployment of extra officers to the islands is “part of sustained effort”, ensuring no irregular migrants, facilitators or vessels remain in the area.

At the start of the weekend – 9th January, 2026 – the police engaged community leaders directly.
They reinforced cooperation, briefed residents on ongoing security measures, and assured them of the police’s continuous presence, close monitoring, and readiness to respond swiftly to any security threat.

The engagements highlighted a growing shift in Jinack, where communities now work openly with law enforcement to protect their coastline and residents.

The Gambia Police Force assures its “commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and strong community partnership” to prevent illegal migration and protect communities in the North Bank Region.
