A road accident just outside Farafenni has left seven people dead, making it one of the most fatal crashes the area has seen in years.

Witnesses say a “Cheikhou Sharifou” minibus, heading from Kolda, crashed head-on with a bus travelling out of Dakar. The collision was so severe that all 18 victims died instantly at the scene, according to reports from Senenews and Seneweb.

Emergency teams quickly moved the bodies to the Farafenni Hospital morgue. As of now, none of the victims has been publicly identified.

Authorities are still piecing together what led to the crash. Police have launched a full investigation, but so far, the exact cause remains unknown.

The tragedy has left families in both Kolda and Dakar anxiously waiting for more information about their loved ones. The news has shaken communities on both sides of the border.

Road accidents involving passenger vehicles are a persistent problem in this region, often resulting in heavy losses. Officials have not yet released the names of those killed or any updates about survivors.

More information is expected as investigators continue their work.
