The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has identified another hotspot for irregular migration, intercepting 70 migrants in a targeted operation in Lamin village.
On Saturday, January 3, 2026, officers from the GID’s Coastal Belt Unit acted on credible intelligence and raided Lamin Lodge, where migrants were believed to be sheltered in a compound. The raid was conducted with the informant who alerted authorities present.
During the operation, immigration officers arrested an alleged smuggling agent. That suspect then led officers to the compound, where 70 migrants were being housed and awaiting further transport.
This interception is the latest sign that smuggling networks are adapting and that new transit points continue to emerge within local communities.
