Senegal lifted the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy after a dramatic 1–0 victory over Morocco, sealing the title in a tense final decided in extra time.
The final was overshadowed by controversy in the 98th minute when the referee awarded Morocco a penalty, sparking angry protests from the Senegalese players, who briefly marched off the pitch in disbelief.

Sadio Mané played a crucial role in calming his teammates and convincing them to return to the field.

The turning point came moments later when Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy produced a heroic save to deny Morocco’s Brahim Díaz of Real Madrid, keeping Senegal’s hopes alive and shifting the momentum of the match.

Senegal capitalised on that lifeline in the first half of extra time when Pap Gueye struck the decisive goal, sending Senegalese fans into celebration and breaking Moroccan resistance.
The victory crowned Senegal as AFCON champions, while Sadio Mané was named Player of the Tournament in recognition of his leadership and outstanding performances throughout the competition.
Senegal’s triumph will be remembered not only for the silverware, but for the resilience, unity and composure shown in the face of intense pressure on Africa’s biggest football stage.
