Macky Sall Returns to Spotlight With New Book Launch

-

Former Senegalese President Macky Sall, who left office amid protests over his third-term bid, is once again in the limelight.

This time for his new book, Africa at the Heart (L’Afrique au cœur), launched yesterday in New York. The event attracted heavyweights including former UN chief Ban Ki-moon, ex-Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, European Council President Charles Michel, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, and AU Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Now living in Morocco, Sall faces allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement from his time in office. Senegalese authorities have begun prosecuting close associates, including Farba Ngom. Yet, despite these shadows, Sall remains a prominent voice on the international stage.

In his address, he framed the book as a rallying call for Africa’s youth, urging them to innovate and lead.

“Africa is not just a continent of problems,” he said, highlighting its creativity, resilience, and potential to shape global solutions. Even amid controversy, Sall continues to shape narratives about Africa’s future.
