Sall Fights Back: Ex-President Hires Top Paris Lawyer as Legal Pressure Mounts in Dakar

-

DAKAR – Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has hired a top French lawyer to bolster his legal team, pushing back against growing accusations of mismanagement and unrest during his presidency.

Pierre-Olivier Sur, a former president of the Paris bar (Bâtonnier de Paris) with an extensive international experience, arrived in Dakar on Tuesday, 22nd October, and is set to hold a closed-door meeting with his Senegalese colleagues on Thursday morning, 24th October 2024.

Sall is accused of embezzling public funds estimated at between 7 and 10 billion dollars and of being heavy-handed toward political protest while in power.

The former president’s camp denies these accusations, calling them “political maneuvering”, and announced plans for a vigorous defence.

A press conference is scheduled for the lawyers and financial experts to meet the Press on Thursday morning, 24th October 2024, at the Alliance for the Republic (APR) headquarters.

Several hotels declined to host the event out of fear of reprisals from government supporters.
